Security Advice & Tips from Aegis Alarms

Statistics show that taking even a few simple and inexpensive security precautions can deter potential intruders, most of whom are opportunistic sneak-thieves. We can also advise on the best products and systems to keep out any professional burglars who may target your property.
We will happily carry out a professional survey of your home or business premises and advise you on the best options to suit your particular property, lifestyle and requirements. All our advice is free and completely without obligation.

We’ve set out below some of the security questions our customers often ask:

Will my insurance company be happy with the locks and other security measures Aegis supplies and installs?

Absolutely. We always ensure that the security equipment we provide and install will comply with the individual customer’s insurance policy requirements.

Do you install electronic intruder alarms?

Yes. A simple intruder alarm strategically located with an external siren cover bearing the respected AEGIS name is an excellent deterrent. Pulsing lights provide a clear sign that it is live and fully functional. Our alarms are designed and installed to be fully compliant with ACPO DD243:2002 and European Standard BS EN 50131-1:1997 for intruder alarm installations.

Can you supply and fit fire alarms?

Yes. We supply and fit stand alone fire alarms or fixed fire alarms with a simple connection to your intruder alarm system for both domestic and commercial customers. Our fire alarms are designed and installed to comply with BS5839:1995 and European Standard EN54.
We can also supply fire extinguishers and advise on their use and location.

How are the alarms monitored?

We can provide a 24-hour alarm monitoring service from our parent company Banham’s award-winning Alarm Receiving Centre. This offers domestic and business customers peace-of-mind alarm response services for a wide range of emergency situations from fire, flood and burglary through to power failure and personal panic alarm activation.
We work closely with the police for those customers who want police response services, or we can contact you or your nominated keyholder direct if your alarm is activated. Please ask us for more details about the emergency response services we provide and the police requirements that have to be met if a police response service is required.

Do you provide keyholding services?

Yes. Our sister company CMS Keyholding is a long-established and respected professional keyholding company offering emergency and non-emergency services to domestic and business customers throughout London and the Home Counties.

Can you install CCTV and door entry systems?

Yes, for both private homes and commercial customers. Please ask us about the various options available and which will be most suitable for your property.

Which door locks do you recommend?

For your front door, you should have a BS3621 Kitemarked 5, 6 or 7 lever mortice lock or cylinder mortice lock together with a cylinder rim deadlock also Kitemarked to BS3621.
For your side and back doors, you should fit a 5, 6 or 7 lever BS3621 mortice lock together with top and bottom security bolts.

What additional security is available for doors?

We can supply and fit deadlatches, hinge bolts, steel reinforcing strips, steel sheets, anti-bandit gates, door chains and grilles for any glass panels.

What about windows and patio doors?

Windows are most vulnerable to forced entry, especially at the rear of the house. Fit window locks to all ground and upper floor windows where necessary, particularly where there is a flat roof, drainpipe or similar. Always fit appropriate key-operated locks to the top, bottom and centre (if necessary) of French doors and patio doors.
Roof lights can be secured with locks and/or grilles.

How can I make windows and French doors even more secure?

We can supply a range of aesthetically pleasing grilles, collapsible gates or continental shutters.

How can I secure my outbuildings and garage?

These often contain garden equipment and tools that would be useful to a burglar, so ensure they are secured with a suitable mortice lock or padlock.
We can also advise on robust and secure roller doors with remote control to maximise your garage security.

Do you supply locks directly to trade and construction customers?

Yes. Our dependable and reliable Aegis-branded locks are very popular with our loyal trade and construction customers. We can advise on suitability and fitting.
